Baggator Bike Club is for young people aged between 11 and 18 who need a bike. They are taught to mend donated bikes and can keep them afterwards. They can donate £20 if they choose to, this money will go towards new parts for their bike and others.
It usually takes around 3 sessions to renovate one of the bikes. The Bike Club is every Thursday between 2 and 4 pm at Baggator.
One of the young people had grown out of his bike and really needed one that fitted. This is what he had to say about the initiative.
“They let me pick out one of the bikes, then we figured out what we had to do to fix it. They taught me loads! I’ll be able to take my bike home when it is safe to ride. I donated some money towards a new chain and brake wires. There were a lot of bikes to choose from, mainly mountain bikes but other types too.”
You could learn how to replace cables, brake blocks, disc pads, swap out the crank axle, take pedals off as well as other things and get a free bike.
